About Me
I’m Anthony Pinzone, a postdoctoral researcher in computational cardiac electrophysiology at the University of California, Davis, where I work in the Grandi Lab within the Department of Pharmacology. My research sits at the intersection of cardiovascular physiology, computational modeling, and biomedical signal processing.
I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Exercise Science at Hofstra University before completing my Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology at Kent State University in 2025. My doctoral work spanned cardiovascular autonomic regulation, heart rate variability, and sports analytics, including the development of the Relative Rest Index (RRI), a metric quantifying rest disparities in professional sports schedules and their impact on NBA and NFL team performance. Across my doctoral training I authored 19 peer-reviewed publications and developed ChronOS, a free open-source Python platform for HRV and baroreflex sensitivity analysis from ECG and PPG signals.
My current work focuses on computational modeling of cardiac excitation-contraction coupling and arrhythmia mechanisms, with particular interest in how sex differences shape electrophysiological phenotypes and arrhythmia susceptibility.
Outside the lab I continue to maintain ChronOS and contribute to cardiovascular signal processing research. I hold an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction (CSCS*D) and have taught several classes as instructor of record at the university level including: anatomy and physiology, introductor and advanced exercise physiology for general and clinical populations, statistics, and research methods across multiple universities (CSUSM, SDSU, Kent State, and NYIT Old Westbury).
